"Our vision will become clear only when you look
into your heart ...
Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens."
Carl Jung
This UK Hypnotherapist shared this incredible real life experience:
"In common with most Hypnotherapists, I was taught to respond to sounds within and without the therapy room and utilise them into the induction.
A few weeks ago, as I met my client at the front door, I noticed storm clouds gathering overhead. As he took his seat, the first gentle rumbles could be heard in the distance and in my mind, I was thinking how I could utilise this once we got down to work.
Having established rapport, my induction went like
a dream and my client was
sprawled out, beautifully relaxed and responding to my instructions
for deepening. I had closed the curtains and by now had forgotten about
the potential storm as I practised my art.
Suddenly, there was a crack of thunder close by. I quickly built this into my script and my client slumbered on. What came next is hilarious on reflection, but was chaotic at the time.
CCCRRAASHHH!!!!!! a huge thunderclap took place overhead accompanied by a massive flash of lightning. My initial thought was oh! F-F-F for goodness sake. However, thinking on my feet, I quickly built this event into the trance.
Shortly afterwards, an even bigger crash of thunder was followed by a flash of lightning, which hit my burglar alarm. "And the sound of the burglar alarm needn't bother you at all…" I suggested. He didn't move. It got worse. The two panic alarms screeched into life, their discordant harmonies seeking synthesis with the alarm. Still he slumbered on.
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! (said the front door). "And the sound of the door banging takes you deeper and deeper into trance …" he slumbered on. I opened the door to a very loud neighbour who was concerned that I was being attacked.
My client slumbered on. The alarm and panic alarms screeched on. The phone rang. It was the alarm company. Did I know the alarms were all ringing. Yes! I had noticed something was awry. Could I speak up as they couldn't hear me because of the noise.
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! DING! DONG! "POLICE, OPEN UP!". Did I know that my alarm was ringing? Well, yes, it had crossed my mind that something was amiss. My client maintained his hypnotic posture. Finally, my wife returned home. Did I realise the alarms had gone off. 'Really? The alarms? Gone off? Well fancy that.'
My wife dealt with the alarm company, whilst I returned to sleeping beauty. I finished the therapy and as I brought him out of trance, he smiled, said how good and relaxed he felt, and made his next appointment.
He said that he had heard various sounds, but they hadn't bothered him at all. By this time my nerves were shot and my head was throbbing in rhythm with the alarms.
So, next time you utilise the sounds of the room/street,
think of me.

"Now it is time for us to
focus on what happens next.
The more we delve into how we got where we are, the more we stay where
we were.
The more we analyse what is not working, the more things do not work.
And the more we consider how we would like it to be, the more things
become as we would have them.
The choice is ours…"
Allen Cohen
"When you get into a tight place
and everything goes against you,
till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer,
never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide
will turn"
Harriet Beecher Stowe
"Laughter is the sun that
drives the winter from
the human face"
Victor Hugo
